HAPPY 3rd BIRTHDAY, SON!

I Love you so much..

So many things happened before Skyler’s birthday celebration could take place.

Paper flags was the first thing I printed months before, and that was it until about 17 days before his birthday.

My precious Dad left me for a life time a month before Skyler’s birthday.  It was the lowest point of my life.  I couldn’t think.

As the month December approached, I told myself that I had to gain my strength to prepare for Skyler’s birthday, he deserve it. 

Let’s create a memory.

About 17 days before the day, I started to think and wrote everything: guest list, stuff to buy, stuff to bring, layout decoration, what to wear, etc., helping my forgetful brain, but still, there were stuff I missed or that just came to my mind, made me had to go to the same place more than once, one thing I was actually avoiding (that’s why I noted things down).

Started shopping and make all the props, sew the boys’ shirt and my skirt within 3 days, I had to pay extra.

One issue: where to celebrate?

After some considerations, my husband and I finally agreed that we’ll celebrate it at Jakarta, at Skyler’s Opung’s house.

My husband’s grandma was admitted to the hospital earlier that week.  I cancelled printing Skyler’s Cars birthday banner.  Worrying that we might “not be able to use it”.

Took our annual leave and left for Jakarta on Wednesday evening, 16th of Desember 2015.

The next day on Thursday we went to the hospital, ended up staying there the whole day, and guess what, that afternoon grandma passed away.. oh my.. the first time for me witnessing someone passed away right in front of me.

Birthday celebration on Saturday, December 19th was cancelled.

Instead of having a birthday celebration, we had funeral services since that Thursday night until late Saturday night.

Friday December 18th, Skyler was playing with one of his cousin and accidentaly fell down, his upper lip bleed.  That night we took him to the hospital, worrying he might loose his appetite or having a hard time eating, drinking, or even talking.

Came home from the hospital, some of the family gathered in a bedroom, we sang “happy birthday” song, Skyler blew his candles on top of a cupcake, I got him an Optimus Prime robot as a birthday gift. (*ternyata itu bukan si Optimus, sodarah.. nah gua lupa lagi namanya siapa.. :p)

Tickets issued early Friday morning (18th), Skyler was supposed to stay with my husband’s younger sister, cousin, and 2 girls (who are staying at our house).  Leaving to Medan on Sunday early morning meaning had to leave for the airport at about 3 a.m., by 9 p.m. my husband suddenly talked to me saying what if I just stay home with Skyler.. since he fell down that Friday morning, he was cranky.. all my stuff was packed.  After thinking and considering, finally I unpacked and stayed.

Crazy week right?

That’s not just it.

Thursday morning, December 24th, my husband called and say that Skyler’s Opung said that do the birthday celebration on Saturday evening, December 26th.

What?

I haven’t re-invite anyone just yet, waiting for them to arrive late that night to make sure.  I didn’t wanna cancell it twice.

Skyler had a headache that day.  His temperature started to rise, I bought sanmol.  He got sick.

Friday December 25th, he was still sick the whole day.  His temperature got up “only” to 37.6 degrees, but he was crying telling us that his head aches.

We took him to the hospital in the mid-night.  The doctor gave some meds, we went home.  I couldn’t sleep well, kept checking on him, afraid that his body temp might rise. Early Saturday morning (26th) around 3 a.m. in the morning, Skyler was gelisah dan akhirnya jadi bangun, jerit-jerit saying that his head was aching again, we rushed to the hospital (again).  I gave him sanmol before we left.

Skyler then fell asleep in the emergency room.  We waited for him to rest, I slept in the car for a while, my husband stayed in the emergency room.

The doctor told us to see dokter mata and THT di RSIA itu.  We waited, and they were both unavailable in that hospital.  We went to Jakarta Eye Center, Praise the Lord, nothing is wrong.  The doctor said that there is no correlation between playing games or watching movies using gadget with having your eyes rusak, just that your kid will be anti-social.  He checked trough Skyler’s eyes, no tumor.  PTL.

We wanted Skyler to have blood check, but the doctor said that it’s not necessary, unless he is still having fever for more than 3 days.  He gave another paracetamol that lasted for about 8 hours.

Coming home from the hospital, I started preparing everything.

I thought we would be ready by 5.30 p.m., and could start taking pics before the guests comes.

Wrong.

My friends arrived before 6 p.m., I rushed to the bathroom, took Skyler too, I bathed him, then I took a shower while telling my husband to go buy a birthday cake when he’s ready.

Skyler looked fine during his birthday celebration, but he was actually still under medication.  Praise the Lord, since that day, no more fever.  The doctor gave obat anti radang, obat batpil, obat anti virus, dan obat panas.  Guess kena virus.

So who came for that 1 day notice?

My friends came before 6 p.m., so I asked them to start eating, they had babies so they couldn’t stay for long.

Family from Papa mertua’s side came at around 8-9 p.m., and also Choki’s friends.

Family from Mama mertua’s side, none came, some of them were not around, some lives like 4-5 hours away, some left for vacation dan atau pelayanan, I’m sorry for the 1 day notice..

During the first time it was cancelled, Papa mertua said that we’ll just celebrate it at Bandung.  We agreed, although I had brought aaall those stuff, using 2 cars all the way from Bandung.. hahahaha..!

They then decided to celebrate it at Jakarta because of Choki’s uncles, aunty, cousin, who came from US for Opung’s funeral were still around and were leaving on Monday early morning.

Some notes:

I forgot to print Skyler’s pre birthday pictures I took -_-“.

I cancelled printing a birthday banner as I mentioned.

Make Skyler’s birthday cake: Failed!!  Ended up buying The Harvest cake, but husband bought a chocolate board with writing on it to put on that red cake that was suppose to have a “road” and diecasts on top, but we put that choc board instead, he also bought an extra candle, and we put some diecasts on too.  He said “sayang kan, kalian udah capek-capek bikin.. taro aja tetap di depan, aku udah beli ini, taro aja diatasnya.. aku beli lilin juga satu lagi yang angka 3..” hehehe.. thank you Beph.. :’).

I forgot to refrigerate the plain margarine I bought and brought from Bandung.

Make poffertjes = cancelled.

Cupcakes turned muffins.  Forgot to buy the icing.  Didn’t have a white margarine to make a homemade icing.

Gosh!

Plan to have some games and even bought some snacks as prizes, cancelled.  No games.  My MCs couldn’t make it during the extended celebration, and jam datang tamu-tamu “berantakan” semua, as in ga terkumpul pada jam yang udah ditentukan; I bought and made nametags, GA KEPAKE SEMUA deh jadinya.. -_-“. Hikz...

Adek ipar yang cowok maksudnya yang fotoin pake DSLR gua, ngga ditempat juga karena ada urusan keluarga yang lain, jadilah cuma pake camera HP.. nasibb dahh.. DSLRnya mau dioper ke orang juga sami mawon, kalo ga tau pakenya, disetting pake auto juga you know, speaking of angle and stuff.. so.. ;(

Begitulah kira-kira tantangan persiapan ulang tahun Skyler kali ini..

Bener-bener challenging especially for me..

The mood, up and down, antara jadi dan ga jadi.. setengah mati lah pokoknya nyiapinnya..

Sampe-sampe udah fotoan berkali-kali baru inget kalo ada paper banner segitiga2 itu yang gua bikin dan akhirnya kami gantung ditengah-tengah acara.. hahahaha.. ampuuunn..

Gua puas lah lumayan sama sweets table yang gua buat, tapiii backgroundnya yang gua kurang puas.. tapi itulah yang paling maksimal yang bisa gua bikin dengan keadaan dan kondisi seperti itu.. banner would be great, but as I’ve said..

Thank you everyone, family and friends for coming and for creating a memory with us :) it means a lot :).
