My 7 Days Vegan Diet!!

Shall we define the word "diet" and "vegan" first?
Here it is, according to Mr.Wikipedia:

Diet, in relation to food, might mean:
  • Diet (nutrition), the sum of the food consumed by an organism or group.
  • Dieting, the deliberate selection of food to control body weight or nutrient intake
  • Diet food, foods that aid in dieting
  • Cuisine, the diet of a particular culture
Veganism is a philosophy and lifestyle whose adherents seek to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose.[1][2] Vegans endeavor to never consume or use any animal products of any type.[3] The most common reasons for becoming, or remaining, vegan are moral conviction concerning animal rights or welfare, health, environmental concerns, and spiritual or religious concerns.[2][4][5]
Properly planned vegan diets are healthful and have been found to satisfy nutritional needs, and offer protection against obesity, heart and renal diseases, cancer and rheumatoid arthritis. [6][7] Various polls have reported vegans to be between 0.2%[4] and 1.3%[8] of the U.S. population, and ranging from 0.25%[5] 0.4%[9] to 2%[10] of the UK population.

And now,
people were like "WHAT?? DIET???" ya.. ya.. I'm thin enough for loosing weight, if that is how they define the word "diet".  I wasn't on diet for the purpose of loosing weight, but for the second point above which is:
"the deliberate selection of food to control body weight or nutrient intake".  Please read it carefully, there is a word "or" in there, not "and" :).

So (I feel like teaching now. hehehe..) , I knew about this healthy food intake since years ago, trough seminars and sermons.  I want to live a vegan life trough out my life.. seriously.. I want to.  But I just don't have enough courage to do it (yet).  Well, it is not gonna be as easy as not being on a diet (refer to the above definition of the word "diet" again), even 7 days was uneasy.

I came up with the idea of trying out a vegan diet for 7 days.  Why 7 days? 3 days isn't that challenging for me. Haha.. seriously.. and I know 7 days would do, specially when I had to go trough the weekend.
For me, I did it also for another way of doing detox.  I know it wasn't gonna be as good as doing detox with manuals, but I didn't want to shock my body with that (only juice in 3 days, and during 21-days detox, we can eat after day 4 but still with a lot of juice--how will I do it when I work?).

I started it on tuesday, December 8th and ended on December 14th (was it?).
Oh, it wasn't easy...
First time I wrote "vegan diet day 1" on my Yahoo Messenger status, a friend of mine popped in a blink with "you're gonna fail ;p" sheeeshh.. hahaha... he asked and told me "what do I do that for, lacto-ovo is good enough, vegan is expensive".. and so on.. I told him I know that.. (the last statement).. I told him "then I'm not gonna be buying any more clothes & shoes then" and he laughed "that's a good exchange: fashion for health". LOL!

So monday evening I went to Carrefour buying stuff as my first "capital" for vegan diet.  I spent about 4-500.000 rupiah on the juicer and blender (I bought a cheap blender and a not-that-so-cheap juicer, since the juicer I have in my room had stain and hard to clean the drain).  I spend another Rp.200.000 for olive oil, cashew, apples, tomatoes, carrots, papaya, broccoli.  The 4 last items I mentioned were organic products, yea, that what makes it costly.  Oh, and the cashew was Rp.68.000 ;( whewwww...

I don't remember exactly my day by day menus, but I had this for that 7 days (the "+" sign meaning I mix them together.  When there is only like "papaya", means I just cut/slice and eat it):
- Carrot juice + broccoli blend (don't put too much broccoli, it will turn out like a porridge you won't be able to eat. Haha..)
- Papaya + tomato + lime juice
- apple juice
- papaya
- apple
- oranges
- rice, stir-fry vegetables, "dabu-dabu",
- steamed potatoes, broccoli, tofu, tempeh, beans, with cashew dressing
- corn + carrot + potato soup
- "kuah asam jamur" or "sour mushroom soup" (that's Manadonese.. hehehe..)
Those are the menus I can recall ;p.
I used a littttleeee salt.  A pinch of salt when it's necessary, but I still avoid it if I can. There is a vegan salt though (made from plant), but I didn't find it.

So by the weekend, guess what, Bf came, that means someone is here to take me anywhere I wanna go and eat.  He took me to Carrefour again by that weekend and I shopped for my food stocks.

Guess what, I had to wake up earlier everyday in order for me to prepare my breafast and luch (I didn't eat rice for breakfast, I only took fruits or juices), cuz if I didn't, that means no meals and I'll be starving all day.
I also had to go to the traditional market around the place I live to buy some additional veggies and herbs.
Can I be a Mom now? ;)

I got 2 bars of chocolate for a birthday gift from Wanda just a day before I start my diet, so I checked on the expire date.  Haha..
I didn't eat chocolate, candy, cake, pudding, snacks, my canned milk (they are all cow milk), you name it.  I get hungry during my meal time :), that's why I can finish all my vegan food.

This was a mixture of 2 kind of juices.

"Dabu-dabu" a la Sindy's Kitchen:
tomato, red onion, a pich of salt, olive oil.

Stir-fry vegetable.
Water for oil exchange, put garlic, pinch of salt,
add olive oil when it's not hot anymore.

Partners of my rice for lunch. I still haven't
buy a new rice cooker, so I was eating
white rice still ;(.
White rice=low in fiber, more sugar.

Heating cashews for dressing.
Blend it with just enough water for a creamy result.

Carrot juice + blended broccoli.

Oranges,
steamed veggies, tofu, potatoes, tempeh,
blended cashew for dressing.

Papaya,
"kuah asam jamur" by Sindy's Kitchen ;).

I think I missed the "corn + carrot + potato soup" picture.  It's in my cell though.. but anyway, for the soup recipe, no need to fry anything, just boil them all.  First, boil potato, then carrot, then corn, after that put the chopped red onion, garlic (have it extra, since you're not adding any seasoning like Royco, Masako and friends), put some salt, put the chopped scallions and parsley just a minute before you're turning off the stove.

By the weekend, we ate at Pizza Hut, I ate the salad, with a little smear of mayo (Bf was eating it too, so I poured a little mayo by the side of the dish).  On monday evening, there was a wedding, wouldn't I be going just because I basically can't eat any of the served food? of course not.  I'm not being a fanatic vegan and doesn't have to be one.
When we know something is good, doesn't mean we can be someone who can judge others who do not, and seeing them as someone with less knowledge and we are the smartest.  I doesn't go like that. And also, do not let our self become a stumbling block to others.  I showed respect to the bride&groom, that's why I went, I still eat, though I only ate the salad some chopped melon. I never force Bf to be a vegetarian/vegan or anything like that (except forcing him to eat vegetables!! Haha.. He's so not into it *sigh*).  But thank God, he was very supportive with my healthy food intake diet :).

My dish on the wedding :).

Then.. I decided to upload this:
potato+carrot+corn soup
by Sindy's Kitchen :).

So, why don't you challenge yourself? ;)
